Swash and Backwash

Swash is when the water of the sea moves up the beach/land. Backwash is when the water of the sea moves away from the beach/sand.

I'm not too sure, but swash and backwash are to do with waves (swash going in and backwash going out) and hydraulic action is to do with water getting into rocks and expanding them...
