Molybdenum is a minor element that contains enzymes used by bacteria as catalysts to break the strong chemical bonds of atmospheric nitrogen. This action allows nitrogen fixation- which is a vital stage in nitrogen cycle- to take place. Its powder is used as a fertiliser for some plants such as cauliflower.
