Define Standard In Relation To Gardening
A standard is a landscape feature in which the plant has been trained to a single stem with a bunch of foliage at the top. To train a plant to a standard is to grow it in a way that it forms a standard e.g. by staking the plant with a piece of wood or bamboo and tying the stem in 2 or 3 places using string. Rosemary and hibiscus are good choices for creating standards.
