Before weeds starts growing on your mono-block you need to tackle them as soon as they start to grow and never let them flower. Cover idle ground with mulches and ground cover plants, if you decide to use chemicals make sure it is friendly to both soil and wildlife. You should then put the weeds that have been uprooted in the dustbin to prevent spreading.
