Grasses that grow best in sand are fescue and Seashore paspalum. Chewing fescue is desirable in low maintenance situations and is particularly tolerant of sandy, acidic and infertile soils. Seashore paspalum is native to the South African sand dunes and is adequately adapted to similar environments in the United States.
