When Do You Pick Onions?
Onions should be picked when they almost half of the onions have fallen over under normal growing conditions and when their leaves have withered off, as this is a sign of ripe onions. It is important for individuals to take precaution when harvesting onions primarily because, onions that grow in moist conditions may never fall; hence, to avoid chances of harvesting unripe onions, one should touch the areas around the neck of onion and if that area has a soft spot in most onions in the garden, then such onions are read to harvest. To prevent mature onions from rotting or so during hot seasons, it is important to harvest all onions before any form of moisture accumulates in the soil.
