How can i get my computer to communicate with my printer?

Answer

To connect a printer directly to a computer, Open Printers and Faxes and Under Printer Tasks, click Add a printer to open the Add Printer Wizard then choose the Local printer or stand-alone network printer option. Clear the automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer check box then click Next. In the use the following port list, click LPT1 which is the recommended Printer Port, and then click on next. Some plotters, however, may connect to the computer through one of the serial (COM) ports. If that's the case, click one of the serial (COM) ports and finally follow the directions that appear.
