VE Day or Victory in Europe Day is a ceremony commemorating the defeat of Nazi Germany on 8 May 1945. People celebrated this day by gathering in public places and there was plenty of singing, dancing and drinking. There was fireworks too and burning of Hitler's pictures.

VE day is observed as the day when the Second World War ended. The Prime Minister Winston Churchill announced this and people were overjoyed. All across the UK celebrations began, crowds gathered in public places and there was a lot of singing, dancing and drinking. In fact many pubs completely ran out of alcoholic drinks.
