Defragmentation attempts to put all the fragmented files together on the hard drive to speed up the operation of the system. In Windows systems, one can find the defragmentation program under System Tools in the Accessories portion of your Start Menu. Depending, the size of the hard drive and the amount of files on the disk, the process can take from a few hours, up to a couple of days.
