The first international game that England ever played was against Scotland. It was played at Raeburn Place in Edinburgh on March 27th, 1872 in front of a crowd of 4000. Scotland won by one goal and one try to one goal. The teams were 20-a-side and halves were 50 minutes each. Frederick Stokes, who then played for Blackheath F.C. was England's Captain.
