How many structural isomers exist for C5H11Cl?


There would be eight structural isomers for C5H11Cl. Four of these are the 2-chloro-3-methylbutane, 1-chloro-2-methylbutane, 1-chloropentane and 1-chloro-3-methylbutane. The other four are 2-chloropentane, 3-chloropentane, 2-chloro-2-methylbutane and 1-chloro-2,2-dimethylpropane.

Purely structural? 5. Chlorine on C1, C2, C3 ,C4 or C5. Anything beyond this is merely reflection of previous isomers. The are also 4 possible unique chiral centres (C2, C3, C4, C5)
