How Often Do You Change Foley Catheters?

Answer

A Foley catheter is a flexible tube that is put through the urethra and into the bladder. The urine then runs into a bag. Frederic Foley designed the catheter in 1930 and they now come in several types, which are council tip, three way, or triple lumen. They mostly used after surgeries on the bladder or prostate. Some problems are they can give you a UTI, as bacteria can travel up the catheter to the bladder and become infected. The Foley should be changed when it becomes clogged, or after 2 days.
