Phosphoryl chloride, more commonly known as phosphorus oxychloride, is a colorless liquid with the formula of POCl3. Its liquid range is very similar to water, having a freezing point of 1 C and boiling point 106 C. It is produced in large quantities industrially and its primary commerce use is to make phosphate esters like tricresyl phosphate. It has a molecular structure that includes three atom bonds of chlorine and one atom bond of phosphorus.
