The partition coefficient equation is a ratio of concentrations of a compound that consists of a mixture of two immiscible phases at equilibrium. The partition coefficients are the single substance between the two solvent phases that are generally separated by a boundary. The phases for the partition coefficients can be either solutions or pure substances. Partition coefficients are also referred to as distribution coefficients. One example of partition coefficients is one phase being a liquid and the other phase being a gas that is over the critical temperature. The partition coefficient would be considered the simple solubility, or Henry's constant.
