Sistrunk Procedure?

Answer

The Sistrunk procedure is used for the removal of a thyroglossal cyst. A thyroglossal cyst is a type of congenital cyst. This means that a person is born with this type of cyst. It will normally appear in the middle of the neck or under one's chin. It will grow as a person does. The cyst can cause infection and it doesn't cosmetically look attractive. The Sistrunk procedure can remove it. The removal is done through general anesthetic. During the procedure the cyst will be removed along with the a small portion of the bone known as the hyoid bone, which is a bone under the chin.
