Symptoms of UTI in Cats?

Answer

While urinary tract infections (UTIs) do commonly occur in domesticated animals, they don’t really affect cats as much as they do dogs. UTIs basically only happen in about one (1%) percent of domesticated cats. It’s often difficult to know when your cat is in pain, in general, because they will sleep, play, purr, and eat even when they’re in pain. If you think your cat might have a UTI, you will need to watch his/her behavior carefully to properly diagnose. Symptoms to look out for would be any sign of pain when urinating, as well as how often they’re urinating. If the cat is cleaning his/her genitals to excess, that is another sign of a problem. Finally, if your cat refuses to use the litter box, but is going on the floor or carpeting, this may be his/her way of telling you that something’s not right. When in doubt, always contact your veterinarian for advice.
