The World War 1 began in earnest on 28th July, 1914 when Austria declared war on Serbia after an Austrian archduke was assassinated by a Serbian nationalist student. Germany offered to help Austria mobilise troops because Serbia already had Russia as an ally. However, Russia managed to mobilise France, setting off the events that made that war the worst ever.
