High SGPT?

A high ALT SGPT is one of the possible results of a liver function test. ALT stands for alanine transaminase while SGPT stands for serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase. If one has high levels of this, it could indicate medical problems such as diabetes, congestive heart failure, bile duct problems and liver damage.

Ask.com Answer for: what does high alt sgpt mean
AST (SGOT) and ALT (SGPT) are sensitive indicators of liver damage or injury from different types of disease. But it must be emphasized that higher-than-normal levels of these liver enzymes should not be automatically equated with liver disease.
The interpretation of elevated AST and ALT levels depends upon the entire clinical evaluation of a patient, and so it is best done by doctors experienced in evaluating liver disease.
