On 19 November 1941, Hmas Sydney which was operated by the Royal Australian Navy was involved in a warfare engagement with a German cruiser. The half-hour long engagement happened after the two ships came across each other 241.5 kilometres off the coast of Western Australia resulting in the ships' mutual destruction.
