Friction is the resistance encountered when one body is moved while it is in contact with another and the other is relatively stationary. It is a force that slows motion and dampens energy while at most times produces heat in the process. Friction comes about due to ‘little bumps’ on the surfaces of object which collide as the slide past each other, thus releasing energy and slowing down the movement.
