The first television commercial in Britain was the Gibbs SR Toothpaste advert. Made by AB Pathe, the commercial ran for seventy seconds at 9. 01pm on the night of 22nd September, 1955. The advert featured a woman brushing her teeth in the approved manner after a tube of the Gibbs toothpaste in a block of ice that was shown and a voice was heard likening the toothpaste's freshness to that of ice.
