Catherine II, also known as Catherine the Great, was born in Stettin, Pomerania, Germany on 2nd of May 1729. She reigned as Empress of Russia from 9th July 1762 after the assassination of her husband, Peter III, just after the end of the Seven Years' War until her death on 17th November 1796.

Catherine II was an Empress of Russia (June 28, 1762 - November 17, 1796). She's known in history as Catherine the Great - modelled after Peter the Great; though she eschewed the title in her lifetime. During her reign, she extended the borders of the Russian Empire.
