Slavery was good because it was seen as the key to national prosperity. It was a source of cheap labour hence low production costs which yielded higher profits. The profits were then invested in educational institutions, inventions, and architecture.

Those who view slavery to be good, like the white slaveowning Southerners, attribute it to the natural condition that the black people have to be subservient to the superior white people. They also attribute slavery to be good because the needs of the slaves while they provided a source of cheap labour force.
