Why was the battle of the somme a disaster?

Answer

The battle of the Somme is considered to have been a disaster because of the number of soldiers who died at this battle; over a million soldiers from all the sides died. On the British side, the losses were due to poor battle strategies and the inability to take advantage of the changing terrain at Somme. Trench warfare during this battle also resulted in its failure, as may soldiers died from disease in these trenches.

The Battle of Somme was a battle between the British, German and French troops that started on the 1st of July, 1916. It was such a disaster because it had the largest number of soldiers slain and also despite all those deaths, Britain got an insignificant amount of land hence they didn’t fully get what they went to war for.
