This is probably the most famous 'What-Is' question of them all and one that is rather hard to answer. After all, the meaning of life differs from person to person. Some people will have a religious outlook and others a more philosophical perspective.
I will however answer the question by stating that 42 represents the meaning of life. For those of you who have read (or watched) The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, this is the answer that is given. For me, the interpretation of the answer given is that the answer is just as random as the question. It took 7 and a half million years for the super computer, within the book, to answer the question that he ultimately forgets what the question was. To me, this suggests that it is much more important to ask the right question than to seek definite answers. The meaning of life is subjective; perhaps a better question one could ask themselves could be what can I achieve? rather than questioning the existence of everything that we know.
If you are completely at a crossroads and becoming philosophical on your journey then ask yourself a few questions. What makes you happy? What do you value? Where do you see yourself in the future? Answering these few questions could help you to live your life to its full potential rather than leading a mundane existence. It seems you may never find the true meaning of life, religious or not, however you can choose how to live your own.
Whether you are young and wanting to understand your own existence or older and questioning the life you have lead, to me life is what you make it; the meaning of life is a life of meaning.
